Life Lately - Oct 2018

Hello loves.

I thought I'd share a bit about why I've been gone for 4 months. Life has been really hard for me lately and I haven't really felt like doing anything except sleeping! For a few months now I've had problems with my left hip. For a couple of months it was sore but I could still get about - I could visit friends and use public transport to a certain extent but now I can barely walk around the supermarket in one go.

I woke up two weeks ago in absolute agony in my hip, unable to do anything but hobble. I went to A&E on Monday last week as I was in so much pain. They put me on some strong painkillers and I can at least walk without crying but I'm still in an awful lot of pain. My doctor thinks it's osteoarthritis.

I'm on the waiting list for physio but basically life as I knew it is pretty much over. My mobility is shot to shit. All my thoughts have been about finding a man in recent months and now they're about mobility aids. 😆😆😆 My family have been excellent throughout. My aunt is spending a terrifying amount of money having the bathroom refitted to my needs - we're getting an extra wide and deep spa bath with 14 water jets, and it's a also a bath with a door so I don't have to climb over the bath to shower. We're getting a new shower and screen as well, and the bath comes with a lift to help me get in and out. My mum and aunt did my food shopping for me last week as I was in too much pain to do it. I felt totally useless sitting in the cafe waiting for them to do it for me, but they took it in their stride. I don't know what life is going to look like for me in the future, but with my family behind me I'll be OK. I should get the results of my x rays on Friday.

I hope things are OK with all of you. I need to catch up on some blog reading!

Thanks for reading. Leah xoxo

  2. It's wonderful to hear from you, Leah! I'm sorry you're in so much pain. I agree with Nicola, your mum and aunt are fantastic. My husband is currently in a major joint pain crisis, but thanks to the opioid epidemic in the US, they simply don't prescribe pain meds now, so that's been fun. Family has been a huge help, though -- I know well how much that means.

I look forward to hearing more from you as you're up to it!

    1. Thanks so much Dandi! <3 Oh my God, your poor husband! How does he cope? I hate that they treat everyone like a potential addict over there, it's horrific.

My family are brilliant - I'm so lucky to have them.

  3. So good to hear from you my love. So sorry you are in so much pain. It angers me that you need waiting lists in the uk for health needs like physio and the like. Omg i take so much for granted in australia. Hope you get some relief soon!! Your aunt amd mother are awesome. What lovely selfless people xoxoxo. I cant imagine a bath with a door!! Wouldn't it leak?
    Feel better soon lovely

    1. Thanks lovely Yvonne! The bath door has a really good seal and a lock on it, kinda like being pressurised. You get in the bath, and the taps will be there on the side so you can start filling it up. I can't wait!

My family have been amazing, from my step dad running me everywhere to my aunt and mum cooking for me when I couldn't look after myself. xxxxx

  4. So sorry to hear things have been so tough, you have my sympathy on the arthritis front as I know what that is like and how much pain it can cause. I hope you get some more help soon and keep pushing the doctors for physio, we don't realise how much we take our mobility for granted until it is taken from us. Your Aunt sounds lovely and I am glad you have such good people around you xxx

    1. Thank you sweet Nikki! It turns out it isn't arthritis, it's something muscular, probably because my left leg is shorter from when it fractured in 1995. I'm hoping physio can pin point what's going on, give me orthotics if needed and help me feel better. I'm very lucky to have such amazing family! xxx
