National Trust - Scotney Castle visit

James and I joined the National Trust a couple of months ago and Scotney Castle was our first 'free' visit to a NT property. It's only about 40 minutes away from us at Lamberhurst in Kent. We'd driven by it often so it was our first choice. Scotney old castle (above) was built approximately c.1378–80.

Here's a little more background on Scotney.
I loved the contrast between these flowers and the gate.
The old castle lies on an island by a lake, and there's the 'new house' which was built from sandstone dug from an on-site quarry. A quarry which holds the footprint of an iguanodon, no less. We didn't realise it was there until after we left so we'll be going back to have a look at that. The new house is below. Still very grand!

The interior of the house is lovely and it's nice to see how the 'other half' live.
I loved this crockery set.
I wonder how old this mirror is?

The following two photos are of the old house. The first is part of the garden made from the ruin of the old castle. That balcony screams Romeo and Juliet to me! The second shows how scenic it is by the lake - how lovely it must have been to be sit inside and watch the sun set from that viewpoint.
The old castle was definitely my favourite bit of our visit, but most of it was covered in scaffolding when we visited so we'll just have to pop back to take photos of it in all its splendour - and then we can check out that iguanodon footprint, too.

Thanks for reading. Leah xoxo

    1. Thank you, Nat! <3 You have the scenery and we have the history! I really want to come to Aus at some point. James and I are talking about it, but it'll be a while yet. We need to save for a mortgage deposit first. ;)
