Kat Von D Studded Kiss lipsticks in Magick and Gothica - a review

My dad sent me some late Christmas money so I bought myself a couple of Kat Von D Studded Kiss lipsticks in Magick and Gothica. I'd had a mini sized Magick lipstick from a Love Me Beauty subscription and I immediately fell in love with the formula and the longevity and wanted a full size as it's my favourite lipstick ever. The colour suits me so well, and I think it's a shade that would suit a lot of different skin tones as well.

I decided to buy 2 lipsticks (because more is more, right?!) and I had a look at a few swatches online and decided to get a full sized Magick and to also buy Gothica, which is a kinda brick red shade with lots of gold glitter running through it. It has a metallic finish and it looked like the kind of colour that would suit lots of skin tones, so I felt quite confident in buying it without seeing it IRL.

The cases have a suitable heft as you would expect from a £17 lipstick and they smell AMAZING -  like vanilla/cake. The official scent description is 'creme brulee' and they do smell good enough to eat.

On the left hand side below I'm wearing Gothica, and on the right Magick. Magick is a dusky pink with ever so subtle sparkle to it, and it lasts HOURS on me. It has a shimmer finish. I can eat and drink and it barely wears - it easily lasts 6 hours on me. Unfortunately Gothica disappears in about an hour, but I'm going to try it over a red lip liner to see if that'll make it last longer. Gothica doesn't last long enough to feel drying, but Magick goes on creamy and does start to feel a little dry after 3-4 hours, but no big deal. I think all lipstick dries me out a bit, but I apply lip balm after my lipstick has worn off if my lips feel dried out.

I usually avoid close ups of my face as after all I'm a woman over 40 and bits are falling off as fast as I can prop them up, but here you go. 😝

An interesting point about lighting - the photo on the left was taken in daylight and you can see my massive pores and the dry skin on my nose. The photo on the right was taken in front of my SAD lamp and is a lot more flattering to my ageing face. So yes, good lighting is everything, people! Bright light is a good cheat to give the impression of good skin. Interestingly my eyes look a lot more hazel in the SAD lamp light than in the daylight pic. They are hazel, not brown.
