Learning to layer
Tuesday, 24 January 2017
As I mentioned in my Fashion Manifesto for 2017, I want to learn to layer and wear things in different ways to maximise the items I already own. I'm wearing my pearless silver dress from In The Style Curve (which I wore dressed up here) in a more casual way.
Another one of my aims for this year was to wear more luxe fabrics, which along with layering, is a second tick off my list in this outfit. I like the contrast of something special and something ordinary. I'm wearing a jumper folded under to look like a cropped jumper as this is by far the most flattering silhouette on me. Of course fat bodies don't have to be flattered, but if something looks more pleasing on me and it's easily done (like folding under a jumper, swapping a full length top for a cropped one or knotting a top under my boobs) then I will.
I'm really in a funk at the moment. On my social media pages I've shared a few posts about how the inauguration and womens' marches have left me very thoughtful. The first stimulating fear and the latter hope. I've been trying to work out how my resistance to the rise of extreme right wing bigots will take shape as a physically and mentally ill woman. I haven't worked that out yet, but I know I do want to resist. We live in mentally exhausting times, and I'm not one of the demographics targeted by the hate of Trump and all his ilk. God alone knows how they process their fear and rage at a world gone mad. It seems frivolous to talk about fashion when it feels like the world is going to hell in a hand cart but here I am. We hold onto what we know, after all. Big hugs to you if recent events are making you feel out of sorts too.
I'm wearing:
