How to rock your boyfriend's clothes *SP

Who’d have thought a boyfriend could be so useful? Holding the clothes they leave behind at yours hostage is a great way to acquire a cosy, comfortable and completely versatile new wardrobe. It’s a great collection to have to add the finishing touches to any outfit - and if you have no boyfriend? No problem, you can have a meander in the men’s section of stores like H&M and Top Man in search of the perfect oversized sweater.

Keep reading to find out how to make the most of men’s wear this season.

Boyfriend jeans

Why spend money on the official women’s boyfriend jeans when you can nab a pair of your other half’s. Over the past year, the baggy and comfortable style of boyfriend jeans has grown in popularity. If they’re a little too large around the waist, pair with a super cute belt and voila! If you’re going for an extra-slouchy cut, pair with feminine tailoring and high fashion accessories for the best combination.

White button down

Every woman needs a white button down in her life, like yesterday. You know those crisp white shirts that are big enough to fit a man but fancy enough to flatter a woman. Based on the clothes and accessories that you pair it with, you can make one perfect for any occasion. Just tuck the front into a pair of black jeans or even those boyfriend jeans mentioned above with a pair of trainers for a laid-back look or a pair of wedges for a more sophisticated look.

Baggy tees

Baggy t-shirts are by far the most versatile piece of clothing out there, and I bet your boyfriend has plenty. You can wear them with pretty much any type of trousers, and an added bonus is that a baggy tee will make your pins look amazing. If the shirt is long enough, you can forget about the trousers all together and wear it as a dress. The most obvious footwear would be converses or trainers but if you’re feeling really bold, pair with a pretty pair of sandals. Who needs a LBD when you have your boyfriends tee.

Accessories

We spend an extreme amount of money on our accessories, but have you ever looked through your boyfriend’s accessory collection? It could save you huge amounts and they have some really stylish options now, I especially love the men’s leather bracelet stackable look. Pair with a boohoo style white floaty top, leggings and sandals for a wild and free iconic image. Play around with colours and textures and mix and match for the ultimate fashion statement.

Layer layer layer

Layering multiple items of clothing is a great trend we can steal from guys; it’s a wonderful technique and in the winter months keeps you that little bit warmer. Classic oversized shirts worn unbuttoned over a vest or t-shirt is a great casual and laid back look or try a baggy sweater over an oversized shirt and leave it untucked for a real chic look. For evening wear, try a short dress under his cool bomber jacket for a smooth and comfortable look.

Sports jerseys

The cool American style sports jerseys are no longer just for the lads. Paired with some black skinny jeans and converses they are a staple part of the ultimate chic look. If you’re feeling really daring, pinch his baseball cap as well and put on backwards over cute girly hair to totally rock that look.

Bottom line is, borrowing your boyfriend’s clothes is a great way to add personality and style to your outfits and as mentioned before, if you don’t have a boyfriend, no problem! Get shopping in the men’s department, not only are the clothes cheaper than women’s, more often than not they are also better quality!

Unpopular opinion? Why IDGAF about LFW

WHY I DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT LFW // AN OPINION POST BY WWW.XLOVELEAHX.CO.UK
It's London Fashion Week and social media is full of takeovers by bloggers, F-ROW photos and much excitement. Each to their own, but I don't give a flying monkey fuck about LFW (or any other straight sized fashion week) and here's why.

Straight sized fashion doesn't interest me at ALL. I can hardly think of anything with less relevance - it has no bearing on my life whatsoever. I don't coo over fashion that doesn't cater to me and people like me. I don't get excited by high fashion because I don't get to see it translated to clothes I can wear. Why get excited about all the trends that ultimately people don't think fat people deserve to wear? No thanks. Don't believe me? How many tents with butterfly patterns have you seen over the years? How many tops or dresses which would have been lovely if not ruined by cold shoulders? Because naturally an acceptable part of a fat person's body to show without offending people is their shoulders.

via GIPHY

Have you ever just tried to buy a top, a simple black top? Let's say I want a black top with elbow length sleeves. Well, it'll have cold shoulders or a zip down the back which freezes your spine in winter and cooks it in summer. It'll have some shitty knot thing at the hem, or even worse an elasticated hem. There's no design too simple to be fucked up and shoved at fat people, as if these horrible and unnecessary 'tweaks' take the viewer's eye away from our fatness. I can't tell you how hard it is to buy the most basic of things without someone fucking it up so it's 'appropriate' for a fat person to wear.

I don't care about all the pretty things that will never be translated to plus size fashion. I don't want to wait to see what crumbs will be thrown my way. You only have to look at a retailer who does straight sizes and plus sizes to see the jarring lack of continuity. Go to New Look or any other store which does both and have a look at the straight sized fashion, then - if you're lucky enough to find a store which has a plus size section - go and look at what's available to you as a fat person. Weep as all the beautiful colours and amazing fabrics downstairs in thin girl land are translated to muted colours and safe, boring patterns for fat people.

I don't care what models the size of my 11 year old niece are wearing - it doesn't translate to my body. Fucking hell, most plus size companies' models don't even translate to my body! I don't see a 2 grand handbag and think 'I can't wait for a high street dupe!' so I can pretend I'm a rich arsehole. I don't want to know trends months in advance. I really don't care. I don't understand why plus size bloggers (especially the larger sizes of plus size bloggers) get so excited about something which excludes them......but that's just me. I like clothes, but fashion? Nah, that's been off limits to me for as long as I've existed in a fat body. I'll just wait for the new season to come around to see what - if any - crumbs have been thrown my way.

Do you give a fuck about high fashion? Let me know.

7 affordable plus size party dresses

7-affordable-plus-size-party-dresses Christmas glam // www.xloveleahx.co.ukToday I'm sharing 7 plus size party dresses under £50. You may have noticed there are only 6 in the collage photo - I'm wearing the 7th one. I've included a mixture of maxi dresses and shorter dresses with long sleeves or sleeveless styles so hopefully there's something for everyone who wants a bit of glam in the run up to Christmas. If you haven't nailed down which little number you'll be wearing on Christmas day, for a nice meal out or to the work Christmas party, I hope this will help.

5 Autumn/Winter trends you need in your life

5-Autumn/Winter-trends-you-need-in-your-life // www.xloveleahx.co.uk

Present mini-heatwave aside, there's no doubt the nights are drawing in and Autumn is coming. With a change of season comes a change of wardrobe (out of necessity in the UK or we'll freeze!) but you don't have to wade through dozens of trends to be fashionable. Fear not, just pick a handful you feel comfortable with and work them into your wardrobe. I've been looking at all the trends for Autumn/Winter and here are 5 things I think you need in your life. Are you ready? Let's dive in!

The fake designer tote bag of dreams

Hello loves,

Turning 41 has made me want to pretend to be a proper lay-dee, and that involved buying a grown up bag. I love fun novelty bags as much as the next woman, but I also want a bag I can wear with many different outfits. I have designer taste but a charity shop budget, so I had a look on eBay for classy looking bags at a good price and this is what I found. I picked a neutral colour so it'll go with everything.

The bag looks so classy, is pretty well made and sturdy, and cost just £15.79 with p&p. I'm thrilled with it. It's a pale beige colour, comes with a removable, adjustable shoulder strap and has 2 zipped pockets and a mobile phone pouch inside, as well as a small zipped pocket on the outside. It has 4 studs on the bottom so if you put it on the floor at any time it won't get too dirty.

It's not perfect, but I'm not looking for it at £15. The lining is a little bit on the tacky side and the zips may not last forever but it looks really classy and if like me, you haven't got hundreds of pounds to spend on a bag, it'll probably do you fine! I think I might treat myself to the hot pink one in a month or two.

I bought mine here and delivery was about 2-3 days.

What do you think about this bag? Someone on Facebook said it looked like a Cyberman smoking a cigarette, and I can see the resemblance!

Thanks for peeking.

Outfit Post || LOTR mania - One beer to rule them all

Hello loves,

I have another Tee Fury purchase today, and another Lord of the Rings themed one, too. Tee Fury do a t shirt of the day every day (although it's actually two t shirts of the day, usually based on the same theme) and then they go off sale after a day and into a gallery. Forum members can vote their favourites back into sale. So it's very much a case of grab something on the day if you see it.

Of course when I saw another Lord of the Rings themed t shirt so soon after the other one I jumped in with both feet. With postage each t shirt costs from about £10 (depending on size) including postage. I've made 3 orders so far (2 orders for me and one for James) all separately and there have been no customs charges as it's under the threshold. Basically in the UK, anything you buy which comes from outside the EU could possibly cause customs charges if you spend £18 or more on the goods and postage. I've bought something right on the £18 limit before (£14 goods and £4 postage) and still got charged about £11 in fees so I always buy one shirt at a time to ensure there are no customs fees.

I call this one the Evans online mannequin. :D

The t shirts are really good thick cotton and wash well. As you can see I've slashed the neck on this tee but I haven't shortened the sleeves yet.

I've got a bee in my bonnet about novelty t shirts at the moment, as you can see. :) I've decided to embrace my alternative/nerdy side more on the blog. Everyone needs a niche, and fat-depressed-and-chronically-ill-blogger-with-a-shopping-habit isn't too catchy, so fat and alternative/nerdy will do. ;)

T shirt, Tee Fury
Skirt, past year's Primark
Shoes, past year's Evans
Lippie is MeMeMe lip cream in Persian Pink (one of the most moisturising lipsticks I own.)
And that bloody hair band on my wrist agaaaaaaaaainnnnn :O

Outfit post || Bloggers do Bexhill

Hello lovelies!

This weekend Mookie and her hubby Mike came to visit us and yesterday we went out to Bexhill to take photos - there are lots of beach shelters to keep dry under. It was FREEZING and peeing down with rain so you'll have to excuse a few streaks in some of these photos - they're zooming rain drops. I should've worn boots and gloves - I was soo cold!

We took a zillion photos so I may do an overspill post with a lot of funny ones in.

Oops, a streak of rain

I'm wearing:

Felt floppy hat, ASOS
Dogstooth scarf/wrap Very.co.uk
Dress, past season New Look
Cardi, from Mookie
Leggings, Very.co.uk
Shoes, from my FB friend Lauren
Hair flower, past season New Look
Lipstick, Makeup Rev Depravity

I'm wearing the hair flower on my dress in some of the photos as the bust line of this dress is basically open leaving my boobs like an all-you-can-eat buffet. :O

The scarf is about 7 feet long and 3 feet wide and it's so warm. I've had it a few weeks now and love it. I think monochrome is fast becoming my favourite thing.

I hope you had a good weekend? I had a great one.

Outfit post || Aces High

Hello chuckle bunnies! (Where the hell did that come from?!)

I tidied up all my novelty tee shirts and band t shirts the other day (well, at least all the ones I could find) and thought it'd be an idea to share some of them with you.

This t shirt was bought for me by my friend Helen (RIP) at Download in 2003, the introductory year of the festival. It's a bit battered and I've chopped it up in so many ways but I love it as it reminds me of Helen.

I like to play around with perceptions. I don't like to fall into the metaller cliché always, which is why I've paired the tee with the feminine skirt and hair flower. On the other hand I might wear a pretty dress with big boots. I guess I like to be a mix of light and shade.

I hope you don't mind a few more makeup shots creeping in alongside my outfit posts. The briefer the hours of sunlight we get the more I want to fall face first into a pile of makeup to cheer myself up. I can always tell when the depression is worse - I favour buying makeup instead of clothes and that's definitely the case at the moment. Chronic illness and depression aren't pretty, and look good feel good really works for me. Vanity as self care.
My hair is super long at the moment as I haven't had it cut for about 5 months. It really needs a tidy up but I won't have more than an inch off the length as I've been growing it for about 3 years now and eventually want it down to my waist.
You can't really see it but the necklace says 'Makeup whore' which is quite apt for me. ;) I'm a feminist who claims back words like 'bitch' and 'whore' which misogynists use to keep women down. I bought it from a shop called Trashy Doll who've since ceased to be. I'm sure you can find similar on eBay or Etsy though.

I'm wearing:
Tee, Download fest
Skirt, previous years' Yours Clothing
Cotton woolly feel tights, Big Bloomers Company
Boots, past season New Look
Jewellery various, all old
Hair flower, old Peacocks
Lipstick, MUA lip velvet in Criminal
Eyeshadow from the MUA Glamour Nights palette - it's not the best palette to be fair but there are a few good shades in there.

Do you have a collection of band or novelty tees?

Outfit Post || Plus size fashion at House of Fraser*

Happy Wednesday!

Did you know House of Fraser do plus size clothing? They contacted me to offer me an item and I chose a lovely orange embellished dress from Evans (from the Live Unlimited range.) My dress arrived very quickly and came with the hanger - yes! I never seem to have enough.

It's an interesting fabric - it has a texture on the surface and looks a bit like crepe but it's very stretchy - and I adore the dark orange colour. I had intended to wear it over tights but by the time I'd got to the front door the dress had ridden up, so I wore a skirt over the top. I think if I wore it over leggings it would be better - the shiny tights and smooth dress gave too much slip. I have a yen to buy some velvet leggings, and because of their 'grabby' nature they might keep the dress where it's meant to be.

It has split sleeves and lovely stud embellishments at the neck and hem.

I look mighty peeved in the bottom left photo! It made me giggle.

Once I got back indoors I wore it on its own so you can see the length of it. Click to see larger photo.

As you can see it's quite revealing, so when I wear it again I'll wear shapewear with it.

Jacket, New Look Inspire (last year)
Evans orange tunic dress, House of Fraser
180 denier tights, Big Bloomers Company* (review coming soon)
Skirt & necklace, Primark (last year)
Shoes, from my FB friend Lauren
Black star zip top clutch, New Look
Hair flower, Peacocks (very old)

Thanks for reading.

Outfit Post || Mordor is Metal feat. Tee Fury

Hello lovelies!

About a month ago on Facebook I noticed an ad for Tee Fury, a company who do lots of unusual limited edition tee shirts. Artists can design t shirts and get paid for their designs so there's a wealth of styles available. Over to them:

TeeFury was formed in 2008 as the brainchild of a bunch of artists with a passion for limited edition t-shirts. At TeeFury you will find your favourite pop culture tees, with a brand new limited edition design every 24 hours.

Our artists and loyal followers (TeeFurians) are the creative blood in our cottony veins. We thrive on their ingenuity and forum activity, bringing only the best designs to life for 24 hours. After the initial sale, the t shirt is moved into the Gallery, where you can vote to bring your favourite designs back from the dead.

Long time readers might know I'm a total Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit nerd. I adore the films and the chance to snap up a t shirt inspired by LOTR and metal?! FAR too good to pass up so I bought it on the spot. The best thing about the daily deals is the prices start at just $11 (my 3XL was $13.) Postage is just $5.25 to the UK so a single t shirt comes under the UK import duty threshold of £18 for orders outside of the EU (if an order from outside the EU comes to £18 or more including postage it means you might be charged import duty on your order - I didn't because $18 at the moment is about £11-12.) Because the tees are coming from the US they take a week or two to arrive but that doesn't put me off at all. I'm wearing the men's 3XL here and will slash the neck and take some length off the sleeves soon. They also do women's and youth sizes.
Of course I had to pull my Aragorn doll out of the display cabinet. :)
Add a cardigan and I turn from metal mayhem to......metal librarian??

Here are some detail shots. I've been having some good make up days recently so have some of my face too.

Outfit Post || The mustard in your sandwich

Happy Wednesday (already!)

I'm wearing a couple of my summer favourites here in a cold weather appropriate way. I'm wearing the New Look Inspire jumpsuit and Simply Be duster coat I wore here. I've just put a jumper on over the top and added a hat to warm me up. It was about 13 degrees here today and quite windy and I was very toasty. When it gets colder still I'd add socks, boots and a chunky scarf. I always hold off wearing a big coat until I absolutely have to.

Skinny band felt floppy hat, ASOS £20
Duster coat, Simply Be
Jumper, past year's Sainsbury's
Bandeau jumpsuit, New Look Inspire £19.99
Necklace, birthday present from my friend Elaine
Shoes, from my Facebook friend Lauren

ASOS have a great range of felt hats which are great for this time of year. The one I have is also available in burgundy and camel.

Getting these photos was a bit of a pain as so many people stopped to stare at me. What's so revolutionary about a fat girl in front of a camera?! I was only there for about 15 minutes, but about 6 different people or groups of people stopped to stare as if I had 3 heads. I've gone out on my own a few times with my tripod to take photos but no one stared this much before. It won't put me off. I'll just go out earlier so there are less fools about. :)

How do you recycle your summer clothes for colder weather?

Hiya pumpkins!

Happy Halloween! This is my last Halloween outfit post this year for obvious reasons. :) It's a kinda mis-matched punky look.

Black skirt, very old Igigi
Leggings, Primark £5
Shoes, past season Very
Pumpkin hair flower, OWHH Millinery flower of the month club
Ghost necklace, Hootie McBoutique £9

Are you doing anything for Halloween? We're going to a private firework show tonight with some friends. It should be good!

Outfit Post || Halloween Pumpkin

Hello lovelies!

I'm here with another Halloween outfit. This is my penultimate one. I'm wearing the Boohoo pumpkin dress.

The fabric is very thin, the sewing on it leaves a lot to be desired and the application of the pumpkin details is poor quality - the kind that cracks when the fabric is stretched. But all that said, I'm dressed as a frigging PUMPKIN! :)

Boohoo pumpkin dress,
Skirt, past season Yours Clothing
Shoes & fascinator, from my Facebook friend Lauren
Pumpkin basket, Morrisons

You may notice I'm putting my watermark quite prominently on my photos now. This is because an unscrupulous arsehole has pinched one of my blog photos to use on his website which is full of other purloined photos of women. He runs Adsense on the site, and he's profiting from his thievery. There are no links to me or anyone else he's stolen photos from, just pictures of women in dresses.

Yet another weirdo is sucked into my orbit. Anonymity is looking pretty good right now! ;)

Outfit Post || Curverella Zombie

Hello sweet peas!

I've been a very, very bad girl. When I saw that Nicky Rockets had in a batch of Curverella t shirts up to a 5x I decided I'd splash out on one of them, as zombies are very Halloween-y too. Actually, a zombie is for life, not just for Halloween. ;) I'm rather fond of zombie films and The Walking Dead is one of my favourite tv shows.

Anyhow, on Friday James had the day off work and we went out on a grey, wet and misty day for a walk, as you do. I'm determined not to let the weather stop us from going out and soaking up whatever light there is. I even dug out our matching rain macs so next time the sky is crying we can't put off going out for a walk. We're so cool naff.

Hair slide, made by a friend years ago
Coat, New Look Inspire last year
Skull scarf, eBay
Curverella t shirt, Nicky Rockets wonderful t shirt emporium (I'm wearing the 4x in the slash neck)
Skirt, South from Very past season
Bamboo tights, Donatella's
Shoes, Very past season
Bag, Banned

It hammered it down all the way around the cemetery we went to, but the mist and the rain made for quite a nice walk as the mushrooms we saw growing were glistening (actually they looked like willies!) and the gravestones looked more colourful wet. This cemetery is right next to some woodland, and is interspersed with lots and lots of trees, so it's rather nice. There are lots of benches spread about for people to sit on on nicer days. We noticed some baby graves and young people's graves which is always quite upsetting, and the rain kind of added to the sombreness.

Both days the weekend just gone my shoes or boots came home covered in mud. I think I need to invest in a plastic storage box to put them in while they dry out, then a stiff brush to clean them off with.

Thanks for peeping!

Outfit Post || The ghost with the most

Hello lovelies!

Another week has whizzed by, and here in the UK our clocks have gone back meaning it's getting dark at 4pm now. James and I got out of the house on Friday, Saturday and yesterday to top up the Vitamin D and I feel so much better for it.

We took photos of a couple more Halloween outfits, this one being the one I was most looking forward to - the one with the ASOS Curve ghost dress. James loves me spending money like most people like having teeth pulled - not a lot! But when I showed him this dress he said 'You should buy it!' so I did. :)

Of course I wanted to take photos in a cemetery. It's rather fitting, don't you think?

Cardigan, from Mookie
Dress, ASOS Curve sold out
Skull bag, eBay
180 denier bamboo tights, Donatella's
Boots, past season New Look wide fit
Scarf (in last shot) eBay
Cadimhe star necklace, Missguided
Bracelet, Bluebirds and Daisies
Lipstick, Serpent by Makeup Revolution

I won't rave on too much about how soft and comfortable this dress is because it sold out in lightning speed and doesn't appear to be coming back. Boo. But it is very soft and comfortable and comes to just above my knee at the back, even taking into account my shelf butt, which steals inches like cute dogs steal food under the dinner table.

These tights! I've been wanting thick ribbed tights in my size for ages. And now I have them, yaaasss! Cosy, warm, totally opaque tights which are so warm I never want to take them off. You can't make me. Top tights tip - if you're wearing boots and want to wear socks, put them on under your tights. That way the socks don't yank your tights upwards and cut off the circulation to your toes. Especially important when wearing fishnets or you'll garrotte them little piggies.

Glowing ghosts. Oo-ooh-ooh-oooo!

Outfit Post || All trick no treat

Hello love bugs,

SAD and PMS are kicking the shit out of me right now. This is as much of an outfit as I could muster today and that involves no makeup, no accessories and sod all done with my hair. I had to go out to post parcels and I couldn't do it naked...

This t-shirt is one of last year's New Look Inspire Halloween goodies, but they have a very nice skeleton one which may or may not have already fallen into my basket. ;) This one glows in the dark, and so does the skeleton one. Earlier on I came out of the bathroom into the dark hallway and caught myself glowing (I'd forgotten) and called James out to come and have a look.

The t shirt is really thin but I don't mind it at this time of year when I can get away with a cardigan over the top of a shirt and still be warm. The skirt was a sale purchase from Very earlier in the year and has the fat girl holy grail - pockets! The skirt and top are both a size 24, which shows trying smaller sizes can sometimes work! I have everything from a size 18 to size 32 in my wardrobe. Hell, I have a coat that's a size 24 from last year and one from last year that's a size 32 and they fit identically! Try, try, try and don't take ANY notice of the size. If it fits you, then buy it.

I'm wearing the dark purple cardi from New Look I wore previously, a skirt from South by Very and my shoes from Very also.

These early dark evenings and grey days are sucking all the joy out of me. Without being too much of an emo I'm finding life really difficult at the moment. I have no motivation. All I do is sleep and read and some days I only eat one meal and a snack a day. I've been making sure to get some fruit in mah belleh every day but other than that I'm a disaster area. I must've read about 20 books in the last month alone. Maybe I should write a post about that? Heh.

I'm dreading the clocks going back. My sleep is so screwed at the moment I don't fall asleep until about 6 am (no matter what time I go to bed) so I'm waking up halfway through the afternoon. James is really struggling to cope with work at the moment as he's so tired so I'm going to work on him buying us a SAD lamp as I know it'll benefit us both. UK peeps - how are you doing with the winter blues?

P.S. I'll hopefully drag myself out of bed early enough this weekend to take photos of another Halloween outfit I have planned (much nicer than this one!)

Nicky Rockets Halloween T-Shirt

Happy Saturday pickles!

When I saw Nicky Rockets' new Halloween tee on his lovely wife Betty's blog I was ecstatic, because Halloween is my favourite time of year. It was in my basket quicker than I could say 'Hubble bubble toil and trouble!'

Halloween also gives me a chance to dress up and act like a child, which is one of my favourite things to do....even if the pumpkin fascinator I'm wearing here makes me look like a tit head! ;) It looked a lot flatter on eBay.

I'm wearing the slashed neck tee in a XXL which is a size 22-24 but as you can see it fits me at a size 28. It's a lovely thick quality cotton and very comfortable.

NICKY ROCKETS SLASHED NECK HALLOWEEN T SHIRT
I love Reese's peanut butter pumpkins!

I love playing with Picmonkey at this time of year too. This is my first of a few Halloween-themed outfit posts I have coming up, so keep your eyes peeled!
