Makeup Revolution lipstick swatches

Hiya honey buns!

I bought a few Makeup Revolution lippies to try out and have swatches and a review for you.

I bought:

Luscious, a coral
Immoral - a Smurf blue
Rebel With Cause - a dark berry with subtle sparkles

These lipsticks retail at just £1 each. The bullets are no great shakes at all - they rattle a bit, they come unclipped a little easily and I dare say they'll get cracked if they get bashed around in your make up bag too much, but for £1, who's going to moan about that? Not me.

It's hard not to draw parallels with the lipsticks from the other major budget make up brand MUA, so I'm going to! The lipsticks are glossy, apply easily (a bit less so with the blue shade, which needed work not to be patchy) and they have the same sort of vanilla/baked goods smell as MUA lipsticks. They feel moisturising as they go on, but as I removed each of the colours my lips did start to feel a bit parched, so you might need some lip balm in between applications if these lipsticks are going to be a staple in your make up bag. (And face it, why wouldn't they be? If you're going out for the night and don't want to lose an expensive lipstick, pop a £1 lippie in and you have no worries.)

I wore the coral and blue lipsticks for photographs, then left the dark berry Rebel With Cause on, not expecting much in the way of longevity, as I don't get much wear time at all from my MUA lipsticks. (They don't wear away, they totally disappear after a while.) However a few hours later (after drinking a few times) I went to the loo and got a surprise glimpse of myself in the bathroom mirror as I washed my hands. My lipstick was still intact, which surprised me as it's so glossy. I don't normally find glossy lipsticks to last long on me at all. At this early stage I can't say if that's true for many of the Makeup Revolution £1 lippies, but it's something I'll be testing out in the near future. ;) I seem to veer from one extreme to the other with my lipsticks - they're either £1 wonders or £13.50 Lime Crime velvets. Women are nothing if not contradictory! :)

With bargain lipsticks it depends what kind of longevity you're after and what condition your lips are in already. I don't mind reapplying lipstick after a couple of hours as I get to look at my face (yes, I'm vain) and my lips are pretty juicy so a slightly drying lipstick is no biggie. I can always slather some lip balm on before bed if they're particularly dry.

Are you likely to try these £1 lippies? You can get them on the Makeup Revolution website or in Superdrug/Superdrug online.

Oh, and a tip - if you're in the mood for Smurf lips, try layering it over a white eye pencil (MUA do a £1 one which is very soft) to make it pop, especially like me if you have quite pigmented lips already.

EDIT - A couple of things have become apparent since I wrote this post: the lids come off incredibly easy, so watch out for that in your handbag. Also, be very careful with how much of the lipstick you push up at once as the blue one broke off at the base a couple of days ago. Now I have to heat it up, put it back in place and put it in the fridge to 'set' it.

Thanks for reading!
